Other people talk about but WE DO IT.
Safety comes first and foremost at Gunns Transport which provides us with a very strong but flexible back bone in the field of safety thus enabling us to exceed many of our customer's requirements on safety issues.
Our ability to carry out our work in a safe and responsible manner allows us to work for many reputable and safety conscious clients who, like us, place an extremely high value on the safety and wellbeing of employees, visitors and the general public who may be affected by any work activities.
We pride ourselves in being very proactive in the haulage industry by pushing back the boundaries of and in embracing with open arms safety and health. In doing this we have found that we can keep our health and safety systems very practical so as not to be a millstone around the proverbial neck that many believe it to be.
All work operations inherently carry varying degrees of risk that have to be managed and significantly reduced. Our aim is, if possible, to eliminate them completely or to minimise these risks down to a more manageable level leaving only a minimal residual risk. To facilitate this aim we have an effective risk management control system which allows us to identify hazards and then develop bespoke safe working systems and procedures. These safe working systems are then disseminated out to all employees via training, toolbox talks, poster campaigns or letters/memorandums. We have also developed a system that encourages all employees to raise safety issues either with their line manager of the Company's Health and Safety Advisor that they feel is either important to them or others.
In order to maintain our high safety standards quarterly safety inspections are carried out covering all of our work activities, with the odd ad-hoc inspection thrown in, and if any deficiencies are found then these items are given high priority to readdress the correct balance of safety at work.
Along with all the usual in-house safety and health duties placed on the Safety Department it also provides a site visit service and safety information/consultation facility which helps enable Gunns Transport be that little bit different in the service it provides.
Our work force is very important to us so much so employee health and wellbeing is as high on our list alongside our safety considerations. Health monitoring along with the correct planning of work duties to allow the drivers the required amount of time off, as required by the Tachograph Regulations, are just a couple of examples of our drive towards a healthy and alert work force.
We carry out noise, vibrating tools and COSHH assessments with regular checks on all 3 to make sure we maintain a high standard of health protection towards our employees.
Along with our high standards in safety and health we also believe we have a duty to protecting our own and our descendents environment. We have had to develop a bespoke Environmental Policy and Procedures that encourages all of us at Gunns Transport to strive to protect the world in which we live. Our aim is to reduce our carbon footprint to the lowest possible level and to recycle at least 98% of our waste. This is some undertaking but we all believe our aims to be very important and a goal worth fighting hard for.
